The report, which reviewed 19 studies from 13 countries encompassing around
2,198 subjects who had Lasik from 1988 to 2008, found that some 95.4 per cent of
the patients were satisfied with the results.
Lead researcher Kerry Solomon of the Medical University of South Carolina and
her colleagues also reported that satisfaction rates were similar regardless of
which country they were treated in.
The report noted that 16.3 million Lasik surgeries have been performed
worldwide to date, and about one million Lasik surgeries are done annually in
the US.
Researchers also looked at whether patient satisfaction had changed over time
by comparing rates for surgeries performed from 1995 to 2000 with those
performed after 2001. The satisfaction rate was 96 per cent for the earlier
period and 94.6 per cent for the later period.
Solomon said: 'This places Lasik among the most successful of all elective
surgeries. Because this review process was systematic, transparent, and based on
carefully vetted international and US research, the findings are highly
reliable.' Read more athttp://www.opticianonline.net/Articles/2009/04/15/23192/Patients+happy+with+Lasik.html
