Sharif Eye Centre also acquires a formal mandate to train aspiring lasik specialist in Wavelight laser technology. The appointment follows an announcement by the board of Wavelight international foundation at its annual meeting that was held recently in Germany, which awarded centre as ambassador. This makes the centre the only one in the Gulf area to formally train aspiring LASIK specialist on Wavelight laser technology.

Recognizing Dr Khaled Sharif's contribution to the ophthalmology sphere in the region, Wavelight noted that he had an impeccable international reputation and expertise as one of the premiere surgeons in the field and hence was better equipped to take up this task. He will be responsible to train doctors who are interested in vision correction surgeries in the Middle East and Africa using the latest technologies offered by Wavelight.

The Ultralasik is a two- step procedure, involving the use of a computer programmed femtosecond laser to create an ultra thin corneal flap, followed by the application of customized Wavelight cool laser pulses to gently reshape the cornea, resulting in the individualized treatment for vision correction. This technique results in superior visual results and fast recovery. Hence it has been recently approved by the National Aeronantics and Space Agency (NASA) for the vision correction of their astronauts and pilots.

In an effort to familiarize the public about the benefits of the new technology, the center had offered free eye checkups and consultations to the visitors at the Woman's Healthcare Exhibition which was held recently in Dubai , an event dedicated to the well being of the female population of the country.
