About Dr. Michael WoodcockDr. Michael G. Woodcock is Carolina Vision Center's ophthalmologist. He specializes in LASIK and Premium Cataract Lens Replacement. He is one of America's most respected and most renowned refractive surgeons. Since 1996, Dr. Woodcock has performed over 50,000 vision correction procedures, including almost 25,000 LASIK procedures. Dr. Woodcock is a pioneer in the field of ophthalmology. He was one of 13 primary investigators in the FDA study that led to the national commercial approval of LASIK, and he was the first surgeon in North Carolina to be approved for the use of the Crystalens and the ReZoom lens for cataract treatment. He is the world's most experienced surgeon with the Tecnis Z9001 cataract implant lens. Since 2004, Dr. Woodcock has been selected as one of America's Top Ophthalmologists by the Consumer's Research Council of America, and he is a member of the Society for Excellence in Eye Care. Dr. Woodcock studied at Meharry Medical College, where he was the salutatorian of his class in 1980. He completed his internship at Womack Army Medical Center at Fort Bragg, North Carolina and his residency in ophthalmology at Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston, Texas where he was chief resident. In addition, he has served as a Clinical Assistant Professor with the University of North Carolina School of Medicine's Department of Ophthalmology and as the Chief of Ophthalmology at Cape Fear Valley Medical System in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He trains his fellow ophthalmologists in the use of new vision care technologies, and he has lectured and written extensively on refractive surgery and cataract surgery. His professional associations include the International Society of Refractive Surgeons, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the North and South Carolina Ophthalmology Societies and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
